On the battlefield

Multiple clashes. One battlefield.

Coyote Combat is a monthly medieval combat gathering and light LARP in Central Indiana. The main event is repeated battlefield clashes on Coyote Field's CQB-built battlefield in Ladoga, west of Indianapolis. Combatants pay $25. Camp, courts, and the table sit around the fight. Inspired by Ren Faire. This is not a faire.

Boffer melee with crossed polearms on the battlefield

Combat

Foam-weapon, hit-location melee. Multiple clashes for the ward. Every strike lands somewhere specific. Armor absorbs. Whoever still stands at the gate keeps it.

Courts & kingdoms

Banners and camp between clashes. Sit in court or wear the garb if you want. The day is anchored on the battlefield. Cosplay is strongly encouraged.

Table

Food and drink are part of the day. Come for the meal even if you never pick up a weapon. Non-combatants are not charged a fee. We just love to have you there.

The ward

This battlefield has changed hands before

This is a battlefield crucible. A CQB-built field, fought over in clash after clash and patched back together more times than anyone is counting.

Two sides. One battlefield. Multiple clashes in a day. Whoever is still standing at the gate when the count runs out keeps it, until the next side comes to take it back.

Strongpoints are the buildings themselves. Clear the defenders, hold it uncontested, plant your banner. Choke corridors are the lanes between structures, where shieldwalls meet. The muster point is where you fall back after the count runs out.

How combat works

Built for this field. Full breakdown at check-in. This is the shape of it.

Arm hit: dead for the fight. Weapon drops, arm goes behind the back. Leg hit: drop to one knee. You can still fight from the ground. Second leg puts both knees down.

Torso or head: once your points run out, wait for a healer or flip your weapon and walk to respawn. Soft armor adds one point on the torso and head. Hard armor adds two. Marked with a wristband, not memory. Shields are indestructible. A hit to your shield is never a hit.

Golden rule: cannot tell if it landed clean? Call it against yourself. Marshals settle real disputes after the field clears, not during.

If you already play

For Amtgard and Dagorhir players

If you have swung a boffer sword at Amtgard or Dagorhir, the rhythm here will feel familiar: hit-location tracking, armor that adds points, a marshal system instead of a whistle every exchange.

We are not affiliated with those systems. We are a new monthly combat gathering on our own field, built by people who like the genre and already run a CQB-built battlefield. The main event is battlefield clashes, not a faire program... yet... we'd love to eventually get there though!

Camp Friday

Camping and what to bring

Camping is available the Friday before the gathering if you want to set up camp. Saturday is clash day.

Closed-toe shoes and clothes you do not mind taking a hit in, or garb if you have it. Your own foam or boffer weapon, if you have one. Every weapon is inspected at check-in before it touches the field.

No gear yet? Add a sword and shield rental when you claim your spot ($35 total), or use a loaner on the field. Nothing here should block you from showing up. Coming as a roleplayer (shopkeep, musician, food vendor, or commoner)? You do not need a weapon. Cosplay is strongly encouraged.

Want to hold a stall or court as a roleplay anchor? Email info@coyoteforce.com. Bring water. It is still a field day.

FAQ

Questions before the first clashes

Combatants, roleplayers, camping, and how hit-location melee works on this field.

Do I have to fight?

No. Combatants are $25. You can still participate as a roleplayer: shopkeep, musician, food vendor, or simply a commoner enjoying the scene. Cosplay is strongly encouraged. Non-combatants are not charged a fee. If you want to be a roleplay anchor, email info@coyoteforce.com.

Is this a Renaissance Faire?

No. Coyote Combat is inspired by Ren Faire (garb, camp, courts), but it is a combat gathering: a light LARP whose main event is multiple battlefield clashes on a CQB-built battlefield. Saturday, December 5 is the first monthly day at Coyote Field. Camping is available the Friday before. Later Saturdays lock in after this one lands.

Is there food?

Yes. Food and drink are part of the day, around the clashes, not a faire program of their own.

What is hit-location combat?

Every strike lands on a specific part of your body: an arm, a leg, your torso, and each location tracks its own points. A hit to your arm does not affect your torso. Same core system used across most boffer LARPs, including Amtgard and Dagorhir.

Do I need my own gear?

No. Add a sword and shield rental at checkout ($35 with your combatant ticket), or use a loaner boffer on the field. Every weapon gets inspected at check-in regardless of whether it is yours or ours.

Where is this?

Coyote Field, Ladoga, Indiana. Central Indiana, about 40 to 45 minutes west of downtown Indianapolis via I-74.
